Table Limits and Play Duration: An Empirical Survey
Table limits shape not only the betting decisions of players but also the duration of their sessions. We surveyed 228 players across tables with limits ranging from 5 to 5,000 units. Higher-limit tables produced shorter sessions but a greater percentage of sessions ending net-positive. We discuss the statistical and sociological implications.
Tables with higher limits attract a different class of player. Sessions are shorter and more decisive. Our survey of 228 players across eleven venues quantifies this intuition.
Higher-limit tables produced an average session length 22% shorter than lower-limit tables. At the same time, they produced a higher proportion of net-positive sessions — a reflection of the fact that fewer spins leave less room for the house edge to compound.
We caution against over-interpretation: the sample of high-limit players is self-selected, and their bankrolls and styles differ from the general population.
